One of my friends and students (MD) gave her friend a private Zentangle lesson for the 2 of them as a birthday gift. We all had a wonderful time and created some lovely Zentangle art.

MD class number 2 tile 1

Because MD had already had a first class we did a variation on the first tile that they both enjoyed. We all enjoyed the diversity of our interpretations of the tangle patterns. The patterns we used are Crescent Moon, Hollibaugh, Bales, and Tipple. We really had fun with Tipple.

We nearly ran out of time to do a second tile, but we got a good start on a plates tile. For this one we used Cadent, Henna Drum, Flux and Onamato.

I’m confident you can recognize why this string is called a plate tile. If you are interested in having a private lesson with me please use the contact form so we can get started on setting something up. Happy Tangling! Have you made something beautiful today?

From the Diva:

January 24th is Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day. For those of you who don’t know, my son Artoo was diagnosed with Moebius Syndrome when he was born. For all my new friends – Moebius Syndrome is a congenital nerve disorder affecting cranial VI and VII nerves controlling the lateral movement of his face.

She has generously shared a lot of information about her son and her whole life and family while hosting the best Zentangle challenge out there. Her challenge for us this week:

To raise awareness for this disorder is this week’s Challenge. Use the Moebius Syndrome Foundation’s logo as your string, or create a moebius strip out of paper and tangle that… or some other awesome creative thing that i haven’t thought of.
I chose to use the triangle shaped pattern Tripoli with two variations on filler designs on the inside and outside of the string. There are many talented artists who participate in the Diva’s challenge. You can see more Zentangle art on her blog.
I hope you have a beautiful day or contribute to beauty today.

2018 beginning

Lots of gratitude has come with the beginning of this year. As a consequence, I’m a little behind in posting what I have been up to. This first page layout of the year started with a comparison of 2 different brands/hues of purple. They each have their good points. Also, the one on the left was heavy body paint and the right was soft body. It was interesting to see how they cover the page differently. If you want a very uniform coverage the soft body seems to work better. Then I played with gold paint and pens. I was inspired by some gold on purple that I saw over the holidays and really wanted to play with this color combination. I think I will do this again!

I started the year off teaching an altered book art journaling class that I already posted work from the students. Here was my demonstration page that I continued to embellish over the last weeks. I am having a lot of Zentangle private student classes and I hope to catch up on blogging about photos that I have been taking, too.

I hope you have a beautiful day.

Today I taught a class that I offered as part of the Service Auction fundraiser at the Unitarian Fellowship I attend. I had 2 students in my home studio and we had a great time. They were both interested in a monthly art journaling class so I’m thinking about doing that again. I had forgotten how much fun this is to teach.

They chose very different books and had very different styles, but I’m hoping they got started on a practice of art journaling. We also played with deli paper and making collage on the paper. One of the students created layers of collaged paper and paint that was really innovative.

2017 wrap up

Collaged into the background of these pages are the notes I made for a letter to my husband about the joys of 2017. It was a very difficult year and this really helped me end it feeling more positive about it and hopeful for 2018.

I wish you a happy and healthy new year!

Solstice

There is a lot of gratitude captured on this page layout. I had a fun trip to a new art supply store with a friend. I sat on our new couch and watched Saturday morning public television. My husband and I participated in a lot of activities with the Unitarian Fellowship and holiday preparations. And I’m doing a lot of art experimentation. Mostly it hasn’t gone how I envisioned, but yesterday I decided to take a different route. Now I’m excited again to get back to work on it.

This is the Diva’s 7th anniversary of hosting the Zentangle challenge. Congratulations Laura! The Diva’s challenge was to create a holiday tile or Zendala. A Zendala is a Zentangled mandala. Join me this Saturday, December 16th from 2-5 to make your own holiday Zendala. Lets share a little holiday spirit while taking some time to meditate and create a small work of art. I will be at the Morris County Art Association Studio 10 Catherine Lane, Morristown, NJ 07960. There is a $5 materials fee that will include all that you need to create 5 works of Zentangled art. The class costs $40/$35 members per session. Please use the contact form on my website or call the Morristown Studio at 973-267-1722. I hope to see you there!

This is mandala 54 of 100 and Zendala 6 of 100.

making my lists

I’m grateful to be getting back to my art journal more regularly. I created a lot of art this year, but in the last few months I haven’t done as much in my journal and I missed it. I have had a lot to do during this holiday season. I have also had a lot to do with my continuing & increasing health challenges. But not only did I make a To Do list, I got to check a whole lot off of it. It reminded me of Santa checking his list twice. Checking a list as completed and then going back to review my accomplishments and checking them again was very satisfying.

I hope you have a beautiful day and wishing you light in this time of darkness.
