Another 100 Mandalas Project

In the past I have done my own challenges during which I aspired to make mandalas (almost) every day for 100 days. I have been able to work on a mandala almost every day but a lot of my work takes more energy than I have on a given day. Frequently when I try to make a simple one it becomes complicated. So I once again am aspiring to make 100 mandalas by the end of the year, or make a whole lot and finish up a lot of works in progress. I started the project when there was a little more than 100 days left in the year.

Here’s an overview of week 1. I’m off to a good start! I did make 7 mandalas, but one is in the same sketchbook as the art supplies inventory rainbow so it’s not in the overall photo. Another one also appears twice as I combined a completed mandala with one that was in progress and not going well.

This zendala is from a class in the Tangle Talez workshop taught by Shie Naritomi.
This zendala is a combination of one of my handcarved stamps and some Zentangle patterns.
A collection of my handcarved stamps with some mixed media Zentangles and enhancements.
Another Tangle Talez zendala. This one was taught by Anica Gabrovec (Zen.linea).
The central portion of this mandala is another tile that was taught at Tangle Talez by Anica. I incorporated it into a collage that uses my stamps, zentangles and mixed media.

This is the most current Diva Challenge. The challenge was to use the tangle pattern called Siri that was created by Simone Menzel.

I have been working on the Zentangle challenges hosted by Laura Harms, aka The Diva, but I haven’t managed to blog about them. In February all of her challenges were to uses hearts as strings and on one of mine you can see that and the other one the string mostly disappeared. Can you see where the heart strings were on my Zendala? This is Zendala 7 of 100 and mandala 56 of 100.

This is the Diva’s 7th anniversary of hosting the Zentangle challenge. Congratulations Laura! The Diva’s challenge was to create a holiday tile or Zendala. A Zendala is a Zentangled mandala. Join me this Saturday, December 16th from 2-5 to make your own holiday Zendala. Lets share a little holiday spirit while taking some time to meditate and create a small work of art. I will be at the Morris County Art Association Studio 10 Catherine Lane, Morristown, NJ 07960. There is a $5 materials fee that will include all that you need to create 5 works of Zentangled art. Zendala 4

Here is my Zendala for the Diva Challenge this week. It is Zendala 4 of 100 and mandala 46 of 100. I’m a little late in the week posting and its going to be a short one. I’m having some new health problems and have exacerbated some old ones, but I’m making art and checking blogs as I can. For more Zentangled Hearts see the Diva.

Zendala 2

The Zentangle® tiles that have been created for drawing mandalas are called Zendalas®. They are die cut from lovely hot press watercolor paper and take the addition of shading and color so beautifully. The key to improving any skill is repetition and I have been participating in a 100 Mandalas challenge for a few years. These small Zendalas® are really rejuvenating my mandala drawing practice! I’m so excited to kick off my 100 Zendalas® challenge and I hope you will join, too!
