I did a guest blog post for the Diva Challenge this week!
This summer I have been working on a large (30″ x 30″) mandala collage. You have already seen the background layers of the gessoboard. Here is a sample of the Zentangle patterned mandala pieces that I have been working on all summer. By the end of this week I hope to unveil the whole thing in a blog post of my process and the product. This is mandala 47 of 100.
Yesterday I met with the board of the Morris County Art Association and discussed class offerings. I will have 3 opportunities to teach, mostly Zentangle®, but I will have a one day workshop on making artist trading cards.
I will be offering an in depth 8-week Zentangle® Method class for each session. The first session runs from September 14 – November 2 and will be on Thursdays from 4:30-7pm.
What is the Mandala Meet Up? The third Saturday of each month from 2-5 pm we will meet at the Art Association Studio to create Zendalas®. Zentangle® patterns are used to provide a drawing meditation to fill the circle with beauty. All materials will be provided. Materials fee $5. Prices and full descriptions of the classes will be available on the home page of my blog. While I’m going to continue my 100 mandalas challenge, I’m going to try for 100 Zendalas® also. I’m looking forward to helping people create these little works of art.
I made up a batch of Artist Trading Cards to share during my workshop at the Morristown and Morris Township Library tomorrow. I made a whole cereal box of collaged cardboard, cut them to size, and did some Zentangle® magic on them. Come see me there from 7-9 this Tuesday, June 13th!
Here is my gratitude journal for the past week or so. I have been doing a lot of journaling on the large mandala (with the iris) that I have been working on, so I haven’t been doing quite so much work in my journal. The printed iris photograph on these pages was the inspiration and all of my iris were a gift from my father-in-law. It was such a happy coincidence that this week we also went to one of his favorite places in the world, the New York Botanical Garden. It was magical. There is an exhibit of Dale Chihuly’s glass work and I will be doing a post featuring that later today on my other blog.
I have been wanting to create some bookmarks on a coloring page for a while and I really had fun with these. They worked well with the Diva Challenge and I had a lot of fun with my new set of 72 Prismacolor Colored Pencils. The only way to get this coloring page is to order one of my other pages from Etsy. I will send you this page as a thank you gift.
The orange and blue bookmark is a diptych – the 2 halves mirror each other. This was an interesting challenge and fun to do. Check out other tangled diptychs at the Diva’s Blog.
I have been keeping a gratitude journal for years. About 4 years ago I started doing it in art journal format using altered books. My first blog started as a record of that journal and has blossomed into so much more. I will continue to maintain both blogs for as long as possible.
This is my first time using a mixed media sketchbook as my gratitude journal and I’m really enjoying it. I have been exploring acrylic paints and that exploration is reflected in my journal. I also us it to experiment with different media. For example, the flowers in the upper left page were experiments for my Mandala 41 with Rhododendron painting. I didn’t like how they looked with the mandala but I really enjoy them in my art journal and I’m going to use my “plaid” paper in a large mandala I’m currently working on, I think. Stay tuned…
I’m continuing to explore the Zentangle® Method. The tangled squares use a pattern called Paradox that I’m really enjoying. The text and images document what has happened with whom in the last few days and weeks. I had a really long conversation with a dear friend who is fighting cancer. I used a new to me pen to start her drawing and it didn’t work quite how I wanted, but I’m so grateful to include her in my journal.
This week I have been making lots of cards for various people. One of my sons has a birthday coming up and I have a few other friends who are also fighting cancer. All of my cards have had something that uses Zentangle® tiles or inspired art.
This piece will be on exhibit at the Art Upstairs Gallery at the Mayo PAC 100 South St., Morristown, NJ
I have become a member of the Morris County Art Association and will participate in their show.
