It is Inktober again! The “rules” are:

Pick up a pen

Draw

Post it somewhere (the refrigerator works if you don’t do social media).

There are other October challenges that have grown up around Inktober and the 2 that I enjoy are PrintInktober and InktoberTangles. Print Inktober isn’t very active this year and it generally includes both gelli prints and block prints and I’m doing both. I’m really focusing on the Zentangle challenge. It is a lively and inspiring community on Instagram and I really enjoy it. I’m always amazed at how quickly my Zentangleing skills improve when I do it every day!

I am also exchanging some artist trading cards (ATCs) with Mel Beach who is the master of ATCs! Quilts are her love language and she is amazing at them. She shares her ATCs all around the world. I mostly only share with her. I have a few from other artists, but I haven’t gotten anything to organize them yet and I just have the energy to make art and post about it on Instagram. And sometimes I can teach or show it or mail a few ATCs to my Instagram friend. And I try to blog about what is going on at least once a month.

I’m so happy with how the Zentangled ATCs turned out! All of the stuff that I’m generating (that I’m not mailing to Mel) is going into a paper bag book that I created. It has lots of pockets and spaces to collage and put Zentangled goodies in.

Now I’m tired. Have a beautiful day!

Oct. 19, Saturday from 1-4pm Cost: $58
Art Hub
145 W. MAIN
CAMBRIDGE, WI

Registration deadline: SATURDAY OCT 5 at Art Hub

Create your own floral collage! This class is an introduction to gelli printing and mixed media collage. It is for both beginning and intermediate artists. In this class we will use acrylic paint and a gelli plate to paint a variety of papers to use in a 5×7 collage. Gelli printing is a fun and easy process that creates unexpected combinations of color and texture. It is somewhat unpredictable, and you are sure to get some papers you can use in your collage. There will be a selection of papers for you to print on (ie. maps, book pages, old sheet music). Lace will be used to make papers that look like tablecloths and stencils and other patterning tools will be used to make papers that look like wallpaper. We will use some of my carved blocks to stamp leaves and flowers on some of the papers and cut simple shapes for a table, wall and vase. After we cut out the flowers and leaves, we will play around with different paper and color combinations for the collage. Then we glue it all together. You will take home a matted 5×7 still life that is ready for an 8×10 frame.

I haven’t posted in a long time because I had some health problems and I have been busy making art. I have sold more this year than ever before. One of the pieces that sold has also been selected to be part of a calendar. It is for Mental Health America (MHA) of Sheboygan County. It was the culmination of the 100 days of flowers. It is called Organic Geometry: Garden Mandala. This has been a motif I have been exploring since I participated in the 100 days of flowers and I am including some other examples of this series. I have also done a deep dive into carving stamps. I have carved a lot of flower and leaf stamps and I love to stamp/paint them and cut them out to make collages. I did a few still life pieces like this and plan to do more. The backgrounds and some of the leaves come from some of the beautiful stencils from Stencilgirl Products using a Gelli plate. That combination has provided me with hours of entertainment. It is one of the best antidepressants I have found.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by. I would love to hear from you. You can find me on Instagram @jeanette.clawson.
