Finding inspiration.
On Saturday my husband and I were able to go into New York City to play. We decided to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I will be posting photos from that trip over the next few days. They currently have an exhibit called Public Parks, Private gardens: Paris to Provence that includes some Van Gogh paintings I was not familiar with and this one is my new favorite.

Reproductions don’t do his works justice. The colors and textures of the original are breathtaking. If you get a chance to see one in a museum it is worth the price of admission.

This week the Diva Challenged us to recycle something for our substrate. She used a pizza box and treated it like a tan colored tile and inspired me to use a cereal box for mine. She also recommended we use a “Sunshine” string. So here is mine.

Surgery went well and I’m slowly but surely recovering. Hopefully I will be able to complete some more art projects in the coming days.
I hope you have a beautiful day.

I was asked to fill in for an altered book workshop this past Sunday and it was delightful!
One of the women selected a chapter book rather than a picture book and spent a lot of time removing pages and specific words from pages. I love how she made a space for color to peek through. Her book is in the top right of the mosaic.

One of my students really loved this picture book and took it in some interesting directions. She started by cutting out the elephant and filling the negative space with print from a dictionary page. In the photo above you can see how she worked off of a phrase on the page about hearing and included some ear related images and words. Below is a photo earlier in the process.

Another student was an avid art journaler and created two of the two horizontal photos in the mosaic at the top of the page and this one below. I particularly love how this one came out.

This class was so energizing and fun. We talked about having a monthly art journaling workshop starting in the fall and I am looking forward to teaching that.
I hope you have a beautiful day.

I will be teaching an altered books workshop this Sunday at the Morris County Art Association studio.

This is the most current Diva Challenge. The challenge was to use the tangle pattern called Siri that was created by Simone Menzel.
I have been working on the Zentangle challenges hosted by Laura Harms, aka The Diva, but I haven’t managed to blog about them. In February all of her challenges were to uses hearts as strings and on one of mine you can see that and the other one the string mostly disappeared. Can you see where the heart strings were on my Zendala? This is Zendala 7 of 100 and mandala 56 of 100.

I hope you have a beautiful day.
